Last Day of School = Really?!

It is so hard to believe that school is over for the 2008-2009 school year! Where did the time go?! The day started off with a celebration for just the student body and it was wonderful - I love ending the year that way! Six of our students played 'Pop Goes the Weasel' on Boomwhackers while the rest of the students paraded the puppets they made during the In The Heart of the Beast residency down the aisle. It was awesome and they did a fantastic job!

Summer school starts on the 22nd and I am actually looking forward to it! I got a Promethean Interactive White Board and am excited to be able to play with it a little more before the fall. That way I can get used to it and make/test lessons for actual students. I feel like that last sentence needs an evil laugh... mmuuahahahahaha!!!

Anyway, it's the beginning of summer (for me) today and I am going back to school to make sure I have everything done and ready for our summer school meeting on the 19th. All in all, I think it's a fine way to start the summer...

relaxed!

10 Weeks = Our First Nurse's Visit

Well, we were supposed to have our nurses' visit back in May but the nurse went home sick. So I set up another appointment for our anniversary (June 16th) but they called yesterday and said they had a cancellation today at 5pm - would we want to come in? I said yes because I figured that would give the lab a week to get everything done before we see the doctor on the 19th.

We got there right on time and checked in with the clerical worker. When the nurse called my name I got really excited - I was finally going to see someone! She took my weight and led me into an exam room. She asked me about my medical history, then asked Brian about his. She answered any questions she could and wrote down the rest for the doctor to answer. She gave us a bag filled with great information about pregnancy and birth as well as different tests we can have throughout our pregnancy. Though I was sad we didn't get to see or hear our baby I was happy that we got things started.

Right now I am 10 weeks and 5 days. I haven't gotten sick but I have been nauseous on and off this past week. It feels like when I first found out I was pregnant - I get really nauseous when I DON'T eat. Other than that things are going well!

Baby V is growing:
He is about the size of a kumquat and weighs about 5g. His hair is growing along with the irises of his eyes and his FINGERNAILS! Only 210 days left!

9 Weeks = Long Days

I need a nap!

I get so sleepy right at 4pm that I feel like I could just close my eyes and I would drift off to sleepy town right away! This is such a crazy feeling! I mean, it feels as though Baby V KNOWS when I get out of school and schedules nap time right then. It even happens on the weekends at 4pm (though sometimes it happens at 3:30 but who's keeping track?).

Now that you know that I take naps when I get home from school, this week I can't. I have meetings on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday! Wednesday is my only reprieve and it's just not going to cut it. When I can't nap in the afternoon I go to bed around 7:30 or 8 and feel like it's not enough time.

Here's to hoping I will be able to nap this week or go to bed early enough that I feel rested... it IS the last full week of school you know!

Baby V is growing:
She is about the size of a medium green olive. Her fingers are all formed and moving now! Only 217 days left!

Memorial Day Weekend

Brian has asked me if I would go hunting with him in the past and this weekend I finally agreed.

We woke up early on Saturday morning (4am) and got ready to go. We left the house around 4:30am and got to the woods around 5. We got out of the car, sprayed for ticks and bugs, and heard a couple of unmistakable gobbles. I got so excited to possibly see a turkey up close that I actually grabbed some stuff and power walked to the blind (which we set up Friday night). I was trying to be so quiet but it was terribly dry.

We got to the blind and I got in and set up my real chair - one of our tan lawn chairs that has a regular sized place to sit on - aka a comfortable chair. While I was getting situated inside, Brian put up the decoys. By the time we both sat down it was around 5:15 or so. We hear a few more gobbles and Brian did a few hen calls. Around 5:30 it started to rain and didn't stop until we left at 8.

I felt bad that we left at 8, but we weren't prepared for how cold it was. I was in long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, a flannel jacket and gloves and I was still shivering! AND neither one of us could stay awake! I was even nodding off while I was reading my book! To top it all off we didn't hear a single gobble since we sat down.

It was disappointing to tell you the truth. I really wanted to go out there with my husband and experience what he raves about when he goes hunting. Not the actual hunting part, but the nature part (ticks aside). Maybe I'll go another time and we'll be lucky enough to see some animals!

8 Weeks = Using the Bathroom All the Time!

Before I found out I was pregnant I noticed that I had to use the bathroom a lot more often during the day than I used to. I mean, instead of 2 or 3 times during school I now have to go 5 or 6 times. That is almost once an hour! That isn't bad though, I can handle that.

What I am having a harder time getting used to is going in the middle of the night. I can't get used to that for 2 reasons: 1) Someone is going to "get" me. I am not afraid of the dark, but I have always felt that stairways at night are creepy. Since our bedroom is right next to the stairway, I rush into the bathroom and turn around in case someone is waiting to NOT let me use the bathroom. 2) Really? 3 times a night, really?! I go every two hours! Even when I don't drink anything for an hour or two before bed I STILL go 3 times - WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?! It's even more upsetting when I DO have something to drink. I don't go more often I just have to go more. I am afraid that one of these times I am going to be so sleepy that I am going to sleep on the toilet and not know it. How awful would that be?! ESPECIALLY with summer coming up and the actually need for more hydration during the day.

Oh goodness....

Baby V is growing:
He is about the size of a kidney bean. His ears will be visibly developed by the end of the week! Will he be able to hear yet? Only 224 days to go!

7 Weeks = Nauseous

Holy night, I have NEVER wanted to throw up this badly! Not even on my 21st birthday when Angie got me beyond tipsy and then drove me from St. Paul to River Falls in warp speed (thank you snow for helping with that one).

I have been non-stop nauseous for a week and I don't see any light at the end of this tunnel! Don't get me wrong - I am happy that I actually haven't gotten sick, but I think it would make me feel better. I mean, I take a couple of bites of a meal and I don't want to look at, smell, or see it any more. AND there isn't a pattern or predictability to it. One day I couldn't have chicken, the next day I could (the same meal from the night before).

Then there are cravings and aversions that people ask me about. What are you craving? There really isn't an answer to that question. The cravings are more once I hear about something that sounds good. I want it until we have it. For instance, Brian mentioned chicken a la king and I was looking forward to that meal for the entire week! I didn't need it right at that moment but when I had my first bite it was the best meal I had ever eaten! The other thing that COULD be considered a craving would be ice cream. No strange flavors or anything, just DQ Fudge Bars or KEMPS Kempwiches. I look forward to one of those every night.

As for the aversions, I can't walk down the meat aisle at the grocery store and I can't look at hot dogs or brats. The meat smells incredibly delicious while it's cooking, but as soon as I see it want to hurl all over the place. The same thing happens with Brians' Coke and Jack at night. I don't mind the coke, can't stand the Jack. It just makes my tummy turn. I feel badly for Brian because when we go out to eat he has to go through a list of restaurants and name them off for me so I can picture what I have there to make sure it doesn't make me sick.

I think it's time for a Kempswich; that sounds delicious!

Baby V is growing:
She is about as big as a blueberry. Her intestines are developing, the appendix is present and her brain is beginning to grow too! Only 231 days left!

6 Weeks = Our First Ultrasound

Brian and I went in for our first ultrasound today. He picked me up from work and we made the 5 minute trek from my school to the office and got in right away! The doctor, whom we had only seen for a month, came in and said, "The word on the street is that you're pregnant?!" I giggled and we both said YES! I laid back for the ultrasound and he told us that we have one happy embryo in there and that it looks great.

He zoomed in really close because the baby at this point is still only .5cm long (crown to rump). Once he had a pretty good view of the baby we were able to see it's heart beating!!! It was so incredible and amazing I can't even begin to explain the feeling. It looked like a little light flashing at us! Brian and I were so taken and I, of course, started to cry.

Just think, I am 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant! I have a little person developing inside of me right now!! Amazing!

Baby V is growing:
He is about the size of a lentil bean. You can't see it in the pictures but his limbs continue to grow and his nose and eyes are beginning to form as well! Only 238 days to go!

5 Weeks = Busy

It's nearing the end of the school year (only a month left) and I am busier than ever! Meetings, residencies, field trips, dinners with friends... we barely have time to cuddle this week!

On top of that I want to tell people about the baby but we already decided NOT to tell people until after we see the doctor. That means we have to wait until school is out! UGH! I don't know if I'll be able to do it, but if I stay this busy I think I have good shot at it.

Baby V is growing:
She is about the size of a sesame seed. Her central nervous system is beginning to form as well as her skeleton! Only 245 days left!
