Ten on Tuesday - A Little Late

Chelsea, over at Roots and Rings is the host of Ten on Tuesday. Thanks for posting the questions!!

1. From your childhood, what do you miss most about summer vacation?
Running around outside and hearing my mom or dad call me in from the back steps. You could hear everyone getting called in around the block at dinner time. That, and the square I used to bike around! :)

2. Are you going anywhere on vacation this summer?
Nope! Not that I know of! We're making our yard transition into different adventures this summer.

3. What foods do you like to barbecue?
Um... anything? I also need to clarify, I like to EAT barbecue! Shrimp, steak, ribs, chicken... yum!

4. How do you celebrate the fourth of July?
By grilling with my family and watching fireworks.

5. What’s your favorite beverage to drink in the summertime?
Sweet tea or water.

6. What movie are you looking forward to seeing this summer?
I don't even know what's out or what is going to come out!

7. In the car: windows down or AC?
Depends. If I'm on the freeway, AC. If I'm just tooling around, windows. If it's 98 degrees and high humidity, AC.

8. Have you ever had a summer fling?
Not that I remember.

9. Do you wear sunscreen?
Yes, sometimes. Not at recess, but if I am going to be out all day, yes.

10. Do you have any favorite summertime activities?
Bike riding and grilling with my family and friends. Nothing could be better!

Ten on Tuesday

Chelsea, over at Roots and Rings is the host of Ten on Tuesday. Thanks for posting the questions!!

1. Have you ever used Craigslist?
We used it to find/buy our crib and changing table. They were is pretty good shape and Adelle seems to like them! I need to use it more though because I am looking for a nice bike trailer for Adelle to ride in. Know anyone getting rid/upgrading theirs?

2. Can you sew?
Just a tad. My mother-in-law, Sharon, is very patiently teaching me but I am not a great student and haven't really touched my machine in the past couple of months. Well, just to dust it. I need to try to sew some extra fabric onto the bottom of one of my dresses along with maybe making some capris. We'll see!

3. Do you pour syrup on your pancakes or dip your pancakes in the syrup?
I drizzle my pancakes with syrup then dip the pieces in what is on my plate. If I am having waffles though, I pour because nothing is more delicious for breakfast than Belgian waffles with peanut butter and syrup! YUMMY!

4. Rain storms: Love them or hate them?
I love thunderstorms though I haven't really loved the ones we've been having lately. The ones that bring tornadoes. I could do without those, but GENERALLY, I love them! The sounds, smells, the way the rain dances and gusts across the street. Love!

5. Do you like swimming?
I love to swim!! It's actually one of my most favorite things to do!! Lap swimming or even just floating... being in the water is very freeing I think. I just need to find a place that will let me swim, outside, for a minimal - VERY minimal, like free - cost. I guess that is why I just sit in Adelle's pool.

6. What kind of drink do you order at Sonic?
I've only been to Sonic twice and I think I just ordered a Diet Coke because I didn't know you could get fancy flavored drinks. Maybe I'll have to go again just to get a drink. Lame?!

7. Are you funny?
No, not at all. The people around me are which makes me funny by proxy.

8. At what age will your kids get cell phones?
Holy cats! I don't know. I didn't get a cell phone until I was in college and paid for it myself. I know A LOT of the kids at school have them though. That is something I need to think about, and Brian and I will need to discuss this. However, maybe when Adelle is old enough to have after school activities, or is walking home from a bus stop that is in the next county or from school, THAT would be when we would get her one.

9. What’s your favorite vegetable?
Yeah, I love 'em all! Broccoli, spinach, potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, lettuce, toms, onions, olives... oh my goodness. I think I love sugar snap peas best in the summer though. Just delightful!!

10. Were you a Girl Scout?
Yes, but only for a short while. My troop disbanded when I was in 3rd grade. I wanted to continue, but there weren't any troops around/convenient.

NOOKColor

I love gadgets! Love them!! We just don't have the funds to buy all the gadgets we want, so we do research. I've been looking at eReaders for a while and have talked with many friends about the pros and cons to the Kindle and the NOOK (original and color). Most people like the NOOKColor a lot more than the other options.

Well, my concern is that there are too many books I would need to purchase rather than borrow or download for free. This would defeat the purpose though because I could just go to the library! However, the only thing I don't like about the library is that I don't have many opportunities to read while Addie is around. We play too much and when she is sleeping, I am cleaning or straightening up or playing on blogger :) So I end up renewing it once or twice in order to finish it. It isn't that big of a deal, but I hate have to have something read by a certain date. That is exactly why I didn't like reading when I was in school!

What are your thoughts?

A Little About Me...

One of my blogger, and fellow Mommy, friends, had this little survey on her blog. Thanks for the idea Anika. I thought it would be nice to post it on mine, so people can get to know me a little better. Some of you already know the answers, but some may not. Enjoy, learn, and create your own survey!

{1} When and how did you and your husband/significant other meet?

Brian and I met online in December of 2004. We met online on a Friday night, talked on the phone for the first time on Sunday night (2 days later), then met in person on Wednesday night (yup, just shy of a week). We stayed up until the wee hours of the morning and loved every minute. It was amazing!!

{2} What do you and your husband/significant other do for work?

Brian works in IT, and I am a 3rd grade teacher. We both love our jobs and really do look forward to work every day!

{3} What kind of car do you drive?

Honda Civic - wha! It's a great little car and I love it! I would like to own a little bigger vehicle in the future, but we'll have to do some research. When I say bigger, I really just mean 4 wheel drive and a tad taller. I don't want to have to worry about getting stuck all the time - St. Paul doesn't do the best job plowing!!

{4} If you had a few hours to yourself {baby free}, what would you do?

I think I would clean the whole dang house!! It really needs a good cleaning/organizing!! Spring break IS right around the corner.... I would do that or scrapbook/make cards. I haven't done it in a while and miss it a lot!

{5} What is a strong trait of yours?

Using exclamation points!! All jokes aside, I think a strong trait of mine, for better or worse, is that I am caring/empathetic/compassionate/sensitive. Sometimes they all roll into one, sometimes I take them one at a time. However, I do think they have so many similarities that sometimes it's hard to tell each apart.

13 Months

Where, oh where has the time gone?!

Well, Adelle had an appointment for her helmet yesterday. She's had it on since September, when she started out with an 8mm difference between the diagonals of her head (front to back). Yesterday, she was down to a 1mm difference!! YAY Addie!! The doctor asked if we wanted to keep the helmet on and try to get down to 0 and we agreed. We already have the appointment set up, so why not?!

Adelle has also been a real mover and shaker! She is running walking around everywhere! She picks things up in one room and puts them in another. She LOVES putting all of her Little People animals into a bag then dumping them out. She also really likes to take blocks apart, put them into things, take them out, put them back in... it's a never ending story. Another thing she likes doing, is reaching for us when she wants us to pick her up or if she wants to go to one of us (when she's in the others' arms). She will also pick up a book, bring it to us and reach for us so we can read to her. It is adorable!! One thing we are happy about is that she is finally getting the hang of the sippy cup! She is getting in some/one molar and sucking on a bottle has been tough. So we have put her milk into a sippy cup and have been giving her milk to her that way. She seems to like it anyway. She's also tried some new foods: fish sticks, raisins, bran muffins, ribs, cheeseburger, fries, and a couple of malts!

*Speaking of malts, the BEST place to get a malt in MN is The Convention Grill in Minneapolis. I love their fries and they have great burgers too! I highly recommend it!*

The only thing that we'd like to see develop a little more is her oral development. I mean, she babbles quite a bit, but she doesn't say a whole lot of words. We say what things are, describe things, repeat things, are as explicit as possible! What are you other Mommies out there doing to grow your child's vocabulary?

We are looking forward to a low-key weekend. It's supposed to be kind of relatively warm this weekend, so we were thinking about taking Adelle out in her sled. How exciting! I am really looking forward to the warm up since it has been so frigid. Then the Big Game is on Sunday already. I really can't get over how quickly time passes! Anyway, how are you spending the weekend?

2 Weeks Old

I can't believe it - my sweet girl is 2 weeks old! Already?! Where oh where has the time gone? Well, the time has gone to late night feedings and small cat naps when we can get them... THAT is where the time has gone! Would I change anything though - NOT A CHANCE!!

We went to see Dr. Y today for her check up and things were great! Addie is perfect! She has grown an inch since birth so she is now 21.5 inches long and she has gained 4 ounces since Monday so she now weighs 7lbs and 13.5ozs. Her head grew too! We asked Dr. Y about her spitting up, the way she gets so fidgety at times, and about her poo.

Yeah, her poo.

I am a new mom, what can I say? I worry about my little girl all the time! Is she sleeping enough? IS she sleeping too long? Is she eating enough? Is she supposed to stay awake? How long? But I was concerned about her poo. When we were in the hospital, when she was born, she didn't poo. At all. She had to be 'stimulated' in order to do that. Twice. Then, when we got home it took a little while and that made me worried. So when she started to do that on a regular basis, I freaked out when it changed. Who knew that I would be so concerned with poo!?

Anyway, we had a barrage of questions for the good doctor and he answered all of them. The spitting up is normal, we should keep her upright for about 15 minutes after she eats. She is fidgety because her nervous system isn't fully developed yet. And yes, her poo is normal.

Dr. Y said that he doesn't have to see her again until her 2 MONTH check up! YAY!! He also said that if we WANTED to come in for a 1 month check up (in two weeks) that we could. He then added with a smile, "I am assuming that I will be seeing you." Ah he knows me (my overly worried type) well.

I'll post more pictures soon - we have a lot!

Sigh, I am so in love!!!

34 Weeks = Soooo Sleepy!

Today I celebrate the fact that I am 34 weeks into my pregnancy. I have done everything I can thus far to make sure that our little girl is happy and healthy in there. I have been eating a lot of fruits and veggies and trying to stay away from sweets but figure moderation is the key. I had also been walking more at school but as of this last week I have decided to put that on hold until I talk with my doctor on Monday. If I walk a lot I start to get a pressure below my belly. This pressure sometimes hurts and I have to either stop walking, sit, or sometimes I can get away with walking REALLY, REALLY slowly! I don't think there is anything wrong, I just think it's my body's way of telling me, "YOU'RE 8 months pregnant - WTH are you doing?!" We'll see what our doctor says though.

Another thing that has caught me off guard is the fact that I have become more sleepy. I mean, I could probably go to bed around 7p and sleep until my alarm goes off around 6a. For instance, I got home last night around 7p and was fighting to stay awake the rest of the night. Finally around 8:45p I decided I just needed to go to bed. It was wonderful and I feel great! All I hope is that no matter how tired I get, I hope I feel great after I wake up. That would be just fine with me!

Adelle is growing:
Adelle now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which will help regulate her body temperature once she's born — are filling her out, making her rounder (which is adorable as a baby). Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. Just 42 days left!
