"Ter!? We're OK BUT..."
Now, these are famous words in our family because if something happens that we need to tell the family about we start the call like that. It is a great way to get attention and to let people know you need them to listen and be serious.
Well, Saturday my Dad started a phone call to me that way. I sat up as he finished, "Mom fell and we are at St. Jo's right now in the ER. She's going to be fine and we are exactly where we need to be. Ter?! There is no need to cry, she'll be fine!" Well, I told him it was too late for that! After we hung up I showered and we left for the ER.
We got there and Mom was in radiology getting x-rays done. We went to the radiology waiting room to find out that she wasn't getting them done because she was brought so quickly, her paperwork hadn't arrived. So, I gave her a hug and talked a little bit THEN she went in. After she got back to the ER she told us what had happened...
She was stepping onto a curb when she fell and broke her femur (leg) right down by the knee! NOT GOOD! She ended up having surgery on Sunday - they put in 2 screws that look REALLY long, and a plate (which is held in with another couple of screws). The doctor said that everything looks great and her knee joint is fantastic - nice cartilage! She has to wear an immobilizer and can't put any weight on her leg at all! Poor, poor Mom!
She's at home now and is doing pretty well... as well as can be expected I suppose. Her spirits are high though and we're helping her out when and where we can!

17 Weeks = Registering
We know it is early to register - we don't even know if we're having a boy or girl yet! However, registering is kind of overwhelming! There are SO many things you need to register for, so many things you should register for, so many things you want to register for, and then there are the few you want nothing to do with.
We spent the better part of an afternoon walking around one side of Babies R Us registering for things. We're not finished with the registry yet because we want to add things once we know if Baby V is a boy or girl, but take a look at our registry at Babies R Us anyway!
About a week later I went to Target to register there too! Again, there are so many things to register for and some things weren't there so we have to go back to scan them in. Not to worry all of you techies out there... I DID go on line and add things to the registry there but some you have to go in store to scan. I don't think Brian will mind doing that because he will be able to use the scanning gun again! So take a peek at our Target registry!
Again - WE ARE NOT DONE REGISTERING! There are still things we want to add but didn't have the energy, or they weren't in stock, or the item we want isn't on line, or we had to do more research. Keep checking our registries (and here) because they should be finished in September.
Baby V is growing:
Baby V's skeleton is turning into bone from soft cartilage this week. Her umbilical cord is growing stronger and thicker too. She weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom which is about the size of her Mommy's hand! Only 158 days to go!

16 Weeks = Appointment with Our Doctor
Since today is our 16th week, our doctor scheduled a visit yesterday. We got there and my weight is going up nicely (although it is ALWAYS hard to hear I'm GAINING weight - but this is for our Baby...) and my blood pressure is great. They said they found a trace of protein in my urine but that is normal so I shouldn't worry about it.
Then it was time for another ultrasound. We were able to have another ultrasound because in 2005 I had a LEEP procedure done and Dr. Hartsough wanted to check my cervix to make sure things were ok - they were. Well, because we were looking at that we were able to see little Baby V! We asked to see if he could tell what we were having and he did look, but couldn't tell. (I am just going to use he so I don't use it.) His heart is beating 150-155 beats a minute, which is good. And we were able to see him moving around. Brian said that he moves around a lot just like his Mom. It was incredible! We were also able to see his heart beating and his spine and ribs! Oh - and a foot! It was like Baby V wanted to show us his foot because all of a sudden it was right there in the middle of the screen, clear as day!
Unfortunately, the machine he used wasn't able to print out pictures so we don't have any of the ultrasound to share with you. I would ask to go back and get pictures but I think I can wait the 3-4 weeks until our next one. I said I think... I am not sure though!
I am SO happy to know that Baby V is doing well. Dr. H said that things look great and that we are progressing very nicely and I might be able to feel the Baby move soon! That would be awesome since I am such a worrier! Then I would be able to know that Baby V is ok just by feeling him move! I know I'll probably regret this later but - when are you going to kick Baby V?

Baby V is about the size of an avocado! His toenails are growing, his ears are just about in their final position, and the patterning on his scalp has begun - lets hope he doesn't get Mommy's colic! Baby V's heart is pumping about 25 quarts of blood through his little body every day! Wow! Just 168 days left!

15 Weeks and 2 Days = New Furniture!
So I have been a little late in posting because there hasn't been anything too exciting happening. This week - however - we hit the mother load!
We made it to 15 weeks on Saturday (yes that is right, we make it to each new week on Saturdays) and we couldn't be happier. We are into the 2nd trimester (see previous post) and things are still going well (I think).
We have asked our friend Bri to help us look for furniture on line because we are trying to save some money (we're having a BABY here people) and Bri is AMAZING when it comes to looking on line and finding quality things. So she sent us a few links for items and we were too slow for them. They sold before we were able to make a decision! So she sent us a few MORE links and we decided to send emails right away. Well, one person STILL hasn't gotten back to us (after almost a week) and the other person got back to us yesterday. Since our week is pretty hectic we decided to take a look at what they were selling and ended up buying the furniture! We got a BEAUTIFUL crib and changing table!! I don't know about Brian but I am BURSTING with excitement! I really want to put the crib together but I know that wouldn't be a great idea because once we find out what we're having we'll need to paint, but I want to anyway.
We went to his house in St. Paul around 6:30pm and took a look at the crib and changing table (with the help from his wife and 3 kids). They have a cherry finish and still look fantastic after 1 or 2 children and a move! Anyway, we discussed briefly and decided this was going to be Baby V's first furniture! We went back in talked about money and then called my parents to help us take them home because Brian's Accord just won't fit a crib and changing table and my parents live close (and are awesome)! ;) We ended up getting everything to fit and then stopped for ice cream at Izzy's for all of our efforts - YUMMY! After we picked out our cones we left for home.
We got here around 8:30ish and Maria, Dad, Brian and Mom helped bring things in while I watched and held the door. I felt like a bump on a log but it was wonderful to see everything coming into the room... it's starting to LOOK more like Baby V's room! Brian even has a trunk that we are going to keep in the room because it matches so well (sorry about the wonky picture though)!
After Mom, Dad and Maria left we went upstairs and just looked at the crib and changing table. My mind was racing with patterns and bedding, planes and ABC's and just general excitement.
What a GREAT way to start out our 15th week!
Baby V is growing:
Baby V is about the size of an apple. She is moving all around and she can move all of her limbs now too! Though there isn't much to taste her little taste buds are forming... I don't think she likes french fries because I still get an upset tummy when I eat them and I love them (oh golly, she's already taking after her Dad)! Only 173 days to go!

14 Weeks (A little late) = The Second Trimester!
We are finally in the second trimester!
It is such a glorious feeling... elation, relief, excitement, and nervousness all rolling around in me all the time. Elation because we have made it this far! Relief because we are past the dreaded morning sickness and super scary "anything can happen" phase. Excitement and nervousness because we have 6 months to make sure things are ready because Baby V will be here!
However, while I am excited to be in the second trimester, I am still waiting for another milestone - the ultrasound where we might find out the gender. I mean, the 2nd trimester is a big milestone in itself - you'd think I'd be completely happy, but I still can't feel Baby V moving around in there, and I still haven't been sick (not complaining about that), so sometimes I still think, "Are you in there?" That is why I want that next ultrasound, to make sure things are ok; that Baby V is growing and developing well!
Has anyone reading this felt this way? Am I the only one to make it to one milestone only to immediately look forward to the next?

Baby V is about the size of a lemon. He can squint, grimace, and even pee! His facial muscles are moving as he practices one expression after another. And Baby V's kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. Ishy - thank goodness we don't have to buy diapers yet! Just 182 days until we get to meet Baby V!

13 Weeks and 6 Days = Our First Purchase!
We celebrated our 13th week by making our first purchase for the baby. Angie, one of Brian's friends was having a garage sale. We were lucky enough to peek at the goods before the sale started and got some VERY cute clothes and a jumper for our little Baby V. We don't know if we're having a girl or boy (yet) so the clothes we picked out are neutral. We DID get a couple of outfits for little girls just in case, but that is because Angie had two little girls!
It was great seeing you again Angie and it was wonderful to meet your little girls! Thank you for letting us know about the garage sale as well!
Baby V is growing:
She is about the size of a medium shrimp and if she is actually a girl, she already has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries! Unbelievable! Her fingerprints are forming too! Only 189 days to go!
